Dr. Apostolos Kalivas studied at the School of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), where he completed his postgraduate studies and his doctoral dissertation. He has published original scientific papers in international journals and has participated in a significant number of conferences, seminars and research projects. His research interests include classical and molecular plant breeding. He served as the Greek representative as an expert at the European Commission SANCO on issues related to the establishment of coexistence measures between conventional cotton crops and genetically modified crops. He is a member of the Technical Committee for Propagating Material (TEPY). Since December 2010, he has been working as a Research Scientist at the Institute of Cotton and Industrial Plants of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization “Demeter”, which was later renamed the Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources (IPB&GR), in the scientific field of Genetic Improvement of Cultivated Plants. During the period 2021–2022, he served as President of the Scientific Council of IPB&GR and has been a member of the Council from 2023 to present.
