Dr Nektaria Tsivelika holds a BSc degree from the School of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Environment, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She obtained an MSc degree (2008) and a PhD degree (2022) in Plant Breeding. Her doctoral research focused on the genetic study and breeding of native chamomile populations for yield related traits and essential oil quality characteristics. For this work, she was awarded the first prize for the best doctoral dissertation of the period 2021-2022 (“Christidis” award) by the Hellenic Scientific Society for Plant Genetics and Breeding. She has participated in national and European research projects. Her research activities focus on plant breeding through the utilization of plant genetic resources, the evaluation and selection of genetic material, the assessment of phenotypic variability, and the application of breeding methodologies aiming at the development of improved genotypes with enhanced yield potential, improved quality traits, adaptation to diverse environments, and increased resistance/tolerance to stress conditions. Her scientific work includes publications in peer-reviewed international journals and presentations at national and international conferences in the fields of plant breeding, plant genetic resources, and sustainable agriculture. Since July 2026, she has been a researcher at the Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources, Hellenic Agricultural Organization (ELGO)-DIMITRA.
