Dr Thomas Gitsopoulos has received his Diploma from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece in 1996. In 2000 he received his Ph.D. in Weed Science from the University of Reading, UK. Since then, he has worked for 10 years as an Εxternal Αssistant Lecturer in the School of Agriculture Technology of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (today named as “International Hellenic University”). From 2004 to 2005 he was the GEP-Study Director of the GEP-GLP Anadiag Hellas company, responsible for field experimentation for the registration of new plant protection products. From 2005 to 2006 he worked as an Agronomist for the Ministry of Agriculture. Since 2006, he has been working as a Weed Science Researcher in the Hellenic Agricultural Organization-DIMITRA (ELGO-DIMITRA). His main research interests include herbicide weed control, weed biology/ecology, herbicide resistance, integrated weed management and weed management under conservation agriculture. He has participated in various European and National research programs in Weed Management, mainly in rice, potatoes, and cereals and he has published research papers in international journals and conference proceedings, whereas he has participated in numerous workshops on agricultural issues. He is a member of the European Weed Research Society, and recently he has been a member of the EPPO (European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization) Expert Working Group on Plant Resistance to Plant Protection Products.
