Horticulture
Taking into consideration the challenges of climatic crisis, we mainly focus on sustainable approaches in cultivation of vegetables with significant economic value for Greece, indigenous wild and neglected and underutilized vegetables species.
- Physiology, evaluation and exploitation of native horticultural genetic resources with desirable features or resistance to stresses, for future use in breeding programs or to create new varieties.
- Abiotic (salinity, drought, cold, high temperature), and biotic (e.g. soil-borne fungi) stress physiology of vegetable crops.
- Applying the principles of circular economy towards the exploitation and incorporation of residues and by-products of different origin into vegetable crops.
- New cultivation practices and schemes, such as intercropping, use of biostimulants, bioferilizers and composts.
- Nutritional quality, phytochemicals and secondary metabolites of vegetables.
