Breeding in Aromatic and Medicinal Plants

Breeding in Aromatic and Medicinal Plants

Breeding of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (MAPs)

  • Evaluation of genetic, phenotypic and chemo- diversity of MAPs populations
  • Clonal selection of individuals of MAPs superior in biomass production, bioactive compounds and plant architecture
  • Conventional breeding of MAPs (Honeycomb design, mass selection etc.)
  • Development of bred cultivars of MAPs characterized from high homogeneity for industrial cropping
  • Application of state-of-the art biotechnological tools (functional genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) for the development of molecular markers, identification of novel bioactive compounds and investigation of their biosynthesis
