Industrial Crops

Industrial Crops

We mainly focus on cultivation and plant breeding of cotton and tobacco, crops of significant economic value for Greece but also our work expands in hemp, sesame and other industrial plants. More specifically, we are working on:

  • Breeding for high yield cotton varieties, adapted to Greek climatic conditions, with superior quality characteristics and efficient use of inputs exploiting biodiversity
  • Conservation and production of high-quality tobacco seeds of all tobacco varieties grown in Greece and are registered to the National Catalogue
  • Evaluation of hemp varieties in Greek climatic conditions
  • Production of healthy, standardized and certified seeds for Greek farmers
