Natural Products Biotechnology, Plant Propagation and Tissue Culture

The main focus of this key research area is the development of tools to elucidate the biosynthetic routes of plants secondary metabolites (i.e polyphenols, terpenoids), enabling the understanding of their fundamental processes and the creation of biological production platforms. Our research utilizes a multi-omics approach, integrating metabolomic, transcriptomic, and genomic data from diverse plant species, to explore their bio- and chemodiversity and uncover new genes and their metabolic functions. Furthermore, we focus on applying biotechnology procedures for propagation of rare, endemic and important native plants and other application of tissue culture.

  • Micropropagation of native species.
  • Production of secondary metabolites in vitro.
  • Virus elimination through thermotherapy and meristem culture.
  • Native medicinal-aromatic plants and halophyte plants.
  • Ornamental plants.
  • Development of new products.
