Research mainly focuses on the cultivation and plant breeding of cotton and tobacco, crops of significant economic value for Greece but also expands into pharmaceutical cannabis, hemp, sesame and other industrial plants.
- Breeding, maintenance and evaluation of agronomy and technological characteristics of plant species with emphasis on industrial plants, with superior quality characteristics and efficient use of inputs exploiting biodiversity.
- Evaluation of hemp varieties in Greek climatic conditions to determine optimal adaptation and productivity.
- Assessment of pharmaceutical cannabis genotypes for controlled-environment cultivation (indoor and greenhouse), with focus on optimizing growth conditions and secondary metabolite production.
- Breeding of pharmaceutical and hemp cannabis varieties to enhance genetic stability, yield, and biochemical profiles.
- Conservation and production of healthy, standardized and certified seeds for Greek farmers.
