Dr Nikos Krigas is a biologist with expertise in systematic botany (plant taxonomy) and conservation biology. Since September 2017, he works as a Researcher at the Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources & Balkan Botanic Garden of Kroussia of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization Demeter, Thessaloniki, Greece. He has long research experience as member of scientific teams, coordinator or scientifically responsible of >25 research programmes and projects; as co-respodent of datasheets for 37 Special Areas of Conservation of the NATURA 2000 network in Greece; as a delegate in many workshops or seminars in Greece and abroad. He has a strong publication record, including a doctoral dissertation, >35 published papers in international peer-reviewed journals, publication of 7 scientific books and several book chapters in edited books, >100 studies published in proceedings of international and national scientific conferences and many articles for public awareness raising. He has long academic teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate level: as a researcher at the School of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for 15 years (courses in Greek and in English); as adjunct Lecturer at the Faculty of Agronomy, School of Agricultural Crop Production and Rural Environment of the University of Thessaly; as contract Associate Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural Production of Thessaloniki’s Technological Institute of Crop Production (courses in Greek); as Professor at the Division of Science and Technology, American College of Thessaloniki, Greece for two semesters (courses in English); as basic tutor in several programmes and training seminars for students and teachers of the primary and secondary education. Several undergraduate students have completed their bachelor theses under his supervision and postgraduate students have completed their MSc theses with his co-supervision. He has participated in scientific committees of national and international conferences and has been a reviewer for >13 international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
